About 100 people turned out for the Special Events events this past June.
The festivities began Friday evening at dark. Russ Benedict and his students gave a wonderful program about bats! He also identified bird calls such as the Scarlet Tanager, Wood Peewee, and Barred Owls. Tree Frog calls, lightning bugs, and an almost full moon punctuated the lovely evening. Over 50 people including many children participated!
Rain didn't dampen spirits the following day when scientists Paulina Mena, Tom Rosberg, Nicole Palenske Ladner, Cathy Haustein, Kristen Stewart, and Marla Mertz lead expeditions to discover native bees, plants, reptile & amphibians, water quality, butterflies, and dragonflies.
The rain brought out some amazing fungi.
Time spent in nature touches everyone with creation's special magic. The Friends hope you are able to experience the wonder of our Pella gem--Big Rock Park!
